Trust God with the Unknown
A Note from Keirstin:
Let’s talk about something that very few of us enjoy - The unknown.
Our kids ask a ton of questions:
- Where are we going today?
- Who is going to be there?
- What is for dinner?
- When will we be leaving?
- Why can’t we do that instead?
If we were honest with ourselves, we would wonder the same things. We just do a better job at keeping it to ourselves.
- We wonder who is going to be at the birthday party our child was invited to.
- We wonder if we should feed our kids before a play date, or if they will be providing food.
- We wonder about how the traffic will impact when we need to leave for an appointment.
- We wonder why this season of life has to be so difficult.
Faith doesn’t mean we know everything. Faith means we trust the God who does.
As I was considering a picture representing trusting God in the unknown, this picture came to my mind. My daughter was doing a Bible study recently and asked me to print this picture from several years ago out, because it reminded her about the importance of trusting in God.
This picture signifies a moment that our world flipped upside down. We had been fostering for almost a year and in a moment, without a goodbye, the children we were fostering went home. We were left with a lot of questions, zero answers, and broken hearts.
The next picture after this on my camera roll, is my daughter riding her bike to church. In a moment full of uncertainty, we taught our children that Christ is our Rock, biblical community will strengthen us in our weakness, and that we cannot neglect Godly habits that we have set because we are hurting.
We want our kids to trust God when they don't know what happens next.
But trust isn't usually learned in one big moment. It's built through a thousand small reminders of who God is.
How does trusting God in the unknown’s of life relate to preparing for worship? I am glad you asked
One of the most important things children can learn in worship is who God is. They won’t always understand what is happening in life.
Sunday worship gives us an opportunity to remind our children:
God knows. God sees. God is good. God is trustworthy.
Then, Monday - Saturday, we have the opportunity to put this knowledge into practice.
Let’s make Sunday morning a Saturday night decision together.
Weekly Challenge
Don’t forget to prepare your home for worship. Then, prepare your hearts. After reading the Word, discuss things that everyone feels uncertain about. Pray about it. Then, encourage everyone to listen on Sunday for God’s truth that can bring peace in the uncertainty.

A Prayer for Your Family
Lord, You are so good. You are kind and loving, generous and patient. You are Creator and Protector. Thank You! Thank You for the change of seasons; all the memories we made this summer and what is to come this fall. Help us to see where You are in the sunrise, on walks, practicing for the game, studying for the test, driving to work, and every other ordinary moment You bless us with. Amen.
